Our family had no idea what we were about to face when our family was struck down by corona virus in May of 2020. Living with my elderly mother and father-in-law was intended to keep them financially stable and safe in their latter years and it was a choice our family made, to ensure that we would always be just a door-knock away when every they needed us for the small things or the big things. After testing positive, the hospital placed her in high care on a respirator and we waited with heavy hearts for 3 days as she used all of her energy to fight off the virus. Finally, in the early hours of Tuesday 5 May, she lost her fight and passed away leaving my father-in-law and her two grown son’s and their families, reeling with disbelief and immeasurable sadness that this virus is so destructive.
